Foothills Gymnastics Association is a nonprofit booster club supporting the competitive and Xcel gymnasts of Desert Lights Gymnastics. Whether your child is brand new to the sport or transferring from another gym, this page covers the most common questions from families just getting started.
1Getting Started
Enrollment is handled through the Jackrabbit parent portal. Visit the Parent Portal link in the navigation to create an account and register for classes or team tryouts.
We welcome gymnasts as young as 3 years old in our preschool and recreational programs. Competitive team placement is based on skill level and coach evaluation, typically starting around age 5–6.
No prior experience is needed for recreational and beginner classes. Competitive team placement requires a skills evaluation by our coaching staff.
DLG offers recreational classes, the Xcel program, and the competitive team. Visit the Desert Lights website for a full breakdown, or contact us, and a Team member will help guide you to the right fit.
2Costs & Fees
Tuition varies by program and number of hours per week. Current pricing is listed in the Jackrabbit parent portal during enrollment. Contact us for a detailed fee schedule.
Competitive team members may have additional costs for competition fees, leotards, travel, and booster club membership. The Foothills Gymnastics Association helps offset many of these costs through fundraising.
Yes! Our Annual Athlete Scholarship program provides financial assistance to gymnasts who demonstrate need. Visit the Programs page to learn more or contact us to apply.
Foothills Gymnastics Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. All donations are tax-deductible. You can donate by contacting us or by sponsoring or volunteering.
3Practice & Schedule
Desert Lights Gymnastics is located at 6175 W Detroit St, Chandler, AZ 85226.
Practice frequency depends on the program. Recreational classes meet 1–2 times per week. Xcel and competitive team gymnasts typically practice 3–5 days per week depending on their level.
Observation policies vary by class. Many classes have designated viewing areas. Please check with the front desk for the current observation schedule.
A fitted leotard is recommended for all classes. Hair should be pulled back and secured. No jewelry or loose clothing. Bare feet are required on the floor and equipment.
4Competitions & Events
The competitive season typically runs from August through May, with local, state, and regional meets throughout. The Fiesta Bowl Invitational is our signature annual event held each February.
Recreational gymnasts do not compete. Xcel and competitive team gymnasts participate in sanctioned USA Gymnastics meets based on their level and readiness.
The Fiesta Bowl Invitational is our flagship annual gymnastics meet, hosted by Foothills Gymnastics Association. It draws hundreds of gymnasts from across the region and is one of the most celebrated events on the Arizona gymnastics calendar.
5Booster Club & Volunteering
We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit parent volunteer booster club that supports the athletes of Desert Lights Gymnastics. We raise funds, organize events, and advocate for every gymnast in the program.
